Well, it's a really cool story... so here goes.
On Sunday afternoon, Dave and I decided to go to some open houses in the Kernersville area. We really like this area, and have already found a house that we intend to purchase once our house sells. However, we thought we'd at least take the time to drive around and see some more houses & learn more about what's out there.
The first 2 houses we saw were not great. The third was just beautiful -- a model home w/ all the upgrades, nice lot and a great asking price. We wondered what the catch was -- and then we found it. On the last page of the disclosure statement, we saw a notice that an extension of Interstate 40 was going to be built to avoid traffic all going through Winston Salem. Part of this extension was to go through Kernersville, and most likely through this particular neighborhood. While homeowners would be given "full market value" for the homes, they would be torn down and the highway construction would continue. Construction was set to begin in the next 3-7 years. Yowza. We walked away thankful that we found this out!
When we got home, we took at look online for more details about the I-40 extension and where it was going through Kernersville. We were shocked to find out that the highway was going to go STRAIGHT through the house that we were planning to buy. It was like a thousand questions were answered regarding our house not selling. If it has sold, we certainly would have put in an offer on that house and in 3-7 years we would have been out of a house. God's timing is perfect. He is so good.
So, given that most of the houses that we were considering were in that exact area, we were left back at square one with no place to live if our house were to sell. We realized that we needed to learn a little more about the area before making a decision about where to buy a home.
We had looked at apartments last week - and only one of them really suited our price range and preferences. This place was called The Meadows. However, the only first floor apartment was available on August 15th and the previous tenant was a heavy smoker. We were just not willing to take this risk, even though they said they could "get the smell out." We also did not like the fact that we were going to be unable to walk through the apartment that we'd put $ down on until it was ready. So, we walked away from this place, and trusted God to lead us once again.
Monday morning, after the shocking revelation about the Kernersville area, I received a phone call from Miss Angie from The Meadows. She said that she had news about something that "never happens". Someone who was supposed to move into a 2 bedroom 1st floor apartment had JUST called and walked out of the lease. The apartment was empty, cleaned and ready to be rented. She asked me if I wanted to go walk through the apartment (which we were told would not to possible) and that they were waiving the regular 1st floor fee (which was very unusual) and that the person who moved out was a single lady who had been there since the apartment was built and was a non smoker, no pet owning lady. I walked through the place and it was spotless and like brand new. We immediately signed paperwork and reserved the apartment for our family! God is so good.
So, we'll be moving this weekend. Can't wait to have our own space and begin life here in NC as a family. Our family support has been SOOO wonderful, but we are ready to have something that's our own. Thanks for your prayers.
Love,
Ang
