So, why an apartment??

Well, it's a really cool story... so here goes.

On Sunday afternoon, Dave and I decided to go to some open houses in the Kernersville area. We really like this area, and have already found a house that we intend to purchase once our house sells. However, we thought we'd at least take the time to drive around and see some more houses & learn more about what's out there.

The first 2 houses we saw were not great. The third was just beautiful -- a model home w/ all the upgrades, nice lot and a great asking price. We wondered what the catch was -- and then we found it. On the last page of the disclosure statement, we saw a notice that an extension of Interstate 40 was going to be built to avoid traffic all going through Winston Salem. Part of this extension was to go through Kernersville, and most likely through this particular neighborhood. While homeowners would be given "full market value" for the homes, they would be torn down and the highway construction would continue. Construction was set to begin in the next 3-7 years. Yowza. We walked away thankful that we found this out!

When we got home, we took at look online for more details about the I-40 extension and where it was going through Kernersville. We were shocked to find out that the highway was going to go STRAIGHT through the house that we were planning to buy. It was like a thousand questions were answered regarding our house not selling. If it has sold, we certainly would have put in an offer on that house and in 3-7 years we would have been out of a house. God's timing is perfect. He is so good.

So, given that most of the houses that we were considering were in that exact area, we were left back at square one with no place to live if our house were to sell. We realized that we needed to learn a little more about the area before making a decision about where to buy a home.

We had looked at apartments last week - and only one of them really suited our price range and preferences. This place was called The Meadows. However, the only first floor apartment was available on August 15th and the previous tenant was a heavy smoker. We were just not willing to take this risk, even though they said they could "get the smell out." We also did not like the fact that we were going to be unable to walk through the apartment that we'd put $ down on until it was ready. So, we walked away from this place, and trusted God to lead us once again.

Monday morning, after the shocking revelation about the Kernersville area, I received a phone call from Miss Angie from The Meadows. She said that she had news about something that "never happens". Someone who was supposed to move into a 2 bedroom 1st floor apartment had JUST called and walked out of the lease. The apartment was empty, cleaned and ready to be rented. She asked me if I wanted to go walk through the apartment (which we were told would not to possible) and that they were waiving the regular 1st floor fee (which was very unusual) and that the person who moved out was a single lady who had been there since the apartment was built and was a non smoker, no pet owning lady. I walked through the place and it was spotless and like brand new. We immediately signed paperwork and reserved the apartment for our family! God is so good.

So, we'll be moving this weekend. Can't wait to have our own space and begin life here in NC as a family. Our family support has been SOOO wonderful, but we are ready to have something that's our own. Thanks for your prayers.

Love,
Ang

On the road again...

Yup, we are back on the road again. This time we are headed to a wedding in New Jersey to go to dave's cousin's wedding... and the kids are at home with grammy & popPop! We sooooo need this weekend away to just relax and be together. There are so many decisions that are still up in the air. We need time to pray, talk, plan and make these decisons. We appreciate any prayers you can send our way!

PACKING!!
We got the kitchen packed this morning. Thanks to Tracey Kimball and my mom for all their help, and for Zach, Isaiah, and Michah for carrying down boxes & playing legos with my boys while we packed. It seems weird that almost my entire house is packed into boxes and are stacked into my garage. Lord, send us a buyer for our house! Plus, it looks so nice right now because Tracey weeded my flower beds and they look beautiful! What a blessing having the Kimballs stay at our house has been. Amazing how blessing others somehow always comes back to bless you too. God is good.

The boys had a sleepover last night at aunt meredith (dave's sister) and uncle tanner (her husband)'s house last night. It was johnathan's first time sleeping over and he made it all night! I got a call at 845 am that he missed me & wanted me to come get him. Way to go buddy!
People keep asking how the boys are doing. They are doing great so far. This is like vacation for them so it doesnt seem to bother them yet. all their things are still in pa so the reality of us having "moved" to nc hasnt really hit them (or me!). They miss our dog, Iris, a lot. We will be bringing her down here with us on sunday. She will stay at meredith's house until we move into a house or apartment.
When will we move? We arent sure. Lots of waiting. Praying. Listening. We will need help packing the truck, eventually. Until we know more, thanks for keeping us in your prayers & believing with us that "those who put their hope in the Lord will not be disappointed."

One thing i am learning, the hard way, is that mosquitoes are really bad down here & that i taste really good to them. I have been carrying this bug spray around with me everywhere i go since i got bit 12 times in 10 minutes yesterday. Think vampire scene... That's how my neck looked! Yowza!
Ok, back to Dave's job... Other than being assigned the task of choosing a new phone (oh, the stress!) on his first day (he went with the droid, btw), he will be working on various health actuarial jobs. What does that mean? I have no idea! Email him if u want to know! :) dave@davemoran.net
our house in pa still has not sold. We had 10 showings in 2 weeks but since saturday we havent had a single call. It's easy to get discouraged but we are constantly seeing God's hand at work for our family.
Good friends of ours, the Kimball family, needed a place to stay for awhile. they have been house & dog (yes we left iris in pa! So sad!) sitting & will stay there until we sell.

a beautiful day to play at the park... And while the boys are playing, i thought i would start blogging some of what's going on with me & the family.
where to begin?
dave, the boys, and i packed up the van with as much of our stuff as we could and headed down to stokesdale, nc. This is where dave's parents live & they have graciously agreed to let us live with them until things get settled here in nc. They made us feel very welcome by emptying out closets, dresser drawers & having beds prepared for both boys. We feel so blessed by the support of our family down here. It was a hard decison to leave our loving support of family and friends in pa... But we truly feel God is calling us to this area. The fanstastic welcome by dave's parents was the first of many confirmations of God's loving hand upon us.
Dave has a job in Winston Salem with an actuarial firm called "MBA Actuaries". He is one of 5 guys who works there & is learning a lot already... (to be continued)

Volunteers of America

Made a quick stop by Volunteers of America today -- on Thursday they have a deal where if you buy 10 items ($3 and under) you get them for $1 a piece. I found 3 pairs of boys shorts for $.99 each, so I didn't have to purchase all 10 items. I scored 3 pairs of summer shorts for my boys for $2.97. Quite a deal!

Giant Deals - Monday Morning!

Good Morning Shoppers!

I took a quick trip to Giant today to score just a few deals. I don't really "need" anything this week - as I have lots of things I want to stock up on so I took advantage of two coupons that are still running at Giant.

$2 off $5 of Produce
https://www.giantfoodstores.com/shareddev/sharedcontent/healthyideas/index_cpn.cfm
$2 off $10 of Meat
https://www.giantfoodstores.com/shareddev/sharedcontent/Personal/index_cpn.cfm

Plus, I wanted to use my $4 off my purchase that I earned last week purchasing Pillsbury Products. Does anyone know if that deal is still running?

Total Bill: $65.07
Savings: $31.92
Total Spent: $33.15
% Saved: 49%

Here's the breakdown of the good deals:

Cantalopes - BOGO (buy one get one) - save $3.99 on two
Tuna $.69/can - save $.39/can

Giant Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts $1.99 / lb
Giant Bacon $2.99 --- I try not to pay more than $2.50 for a pack, but when paired with the chicken to put it over $10, minus the $2 coupon, I basically got it free.

Giant Whole Chickens - only $.99/lb. I bought 3 of them, just over $10. Minus $2 coupon, just over $8 for 3 whole chickens.

Baking soda & Whole Wheat flour -- have some bananas going bad so about to make a big batch of banana bread. No sale, just something I needed

Apples Tote Bags - $.99/lb -- whole bag of Golden Delicious apples for $5.11

planning takes time, but saves money!

One of the easiest ways to save money is by planning ahead. Make a menu and shop for the items that you will need to purchase for those meals. Base your meals off of the big sales in the Sunday paper.

I came across a link today that was very helpful, with many pre-formed planning documents.

Take a look:

Salvation Army Savings

I drove by Salvation Army today and noticed a sign out front that said "Wednesday's are FAMILY DAY -- 50% off your purchases". Of course, I had to stop. I needed new pants to use while I do my Wii Fit and go to Planet Fitness. My "workout attire" currently consists of a 2 pairs of sweat pants that are big and floppy -- that I wear as PJ's. Not exactly easy to do my yoga/strength training in, or jog on the treadmill. I was able to score 3 pairs of pants today - you can see the prices.

There are many different colors of tags. Each week, as new merchandise arrives, the put a different colored tag. This color rotates on a 4-5 week cycle. The current weeks color was YELLOW. So, this was not included on the 50% off deal. However, any other colored tag qualified for the 50% off.

I paid $2.99 for one pair, $1.50 for the other, and $2.00 for the third... for a grand total of $6.50.

Compare this to a brand new pair of running pants from Kohls @ $19.99...

I'd like to say that I saved $53.50 today. Buying used pays off!

St. Patrick's Day!

the thought of having to wear green to school was apparently overwhelming, to my normally self-sufficient at getting dressed 5 year old boy, so he woke me up at 630 am for me to help. Seeing as though I went to bed at 9ish, it wasn't a big deal but certainly surprising.

as he was getting dressed, i asked him if he knew what st. Patricks day was. He said yes and asked if he could draw me a leprachaun (spelling?!).

I'd say for a 5 year old boy, this is pretty awesome!

Way to go buddy! Enjoy your day everyone!

5 am gym time...

this is a picture of my alarm clock. Why? Because it shows the time that I am in bed. Sure, my dvr list of shows that need to be watched is growing. But. I really don't mind.

Why?

I recently started going to Planet Fitness at 5 am on tues & thurs & then sometime on saturdays. It makes for a very long day but it's so worth it.

I feel absolutely wonderful since i have started. Tomorrow is a big weigh in day for me as I may hit the "20 pounds lost" mark, but more importantly I will be at my wedding weight! Yahoo!

I am "training" for my first 5K by doing a workout called "from couch to 5K". I have never been a runner. In fact, my husband used to joke that if you ever saw me running that you should certainly follow me, because something was REALLY WRONG!

I've been jogging for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds. It might not seem like a lot to you, but for me its a huge accomplishment. I am at 2.23 miles so far... and the journey will continues!

Join me?

embracing joy!

I love smiling.
It's my favorite.

No, seriously. I do. I love to smile. I love to be happy. I love to laugh so much that I almost pee my pants and my stomach begins to hurt. I love the face cramps I get when I've laughed so hard and it actually hurts to smile anymore.

There's nothing like good friends, with whom you can enjoy life. I'm so thankful for my friends.

Above all else, I am thankful for the friend I have in Jesus. He is my life, my love, my all. He makes me smile, more than anyone ever has or ever will.

The beginning....

So, this whole blog thing just seems to elude me. In fact, it's funny how I even learned what the word "elude" means. My college roommate was a musical genius (yes, Jen Loux... that's you) but would never admit it. She had to compose a song on the piano and the lyrics to the song still, to this day, ring in my head on many a morning...
I search for words
to write this song
but words elude me
and I'm
at a loss
I apologize
for this nothingness
but I assure you
that it's nothing less
than the truth

So yeah, this blog... kind of like the words to this song... it's probably going to be a lot of nothingness, but it will be the truth. :)

blessings to you all.
